MANCHESTER, ENGLAND’S JOHN REED AND THE FOLDED ARMS RELEASE ‘THE BREEDING GROUND OF VILE’

English folk music meets hard-edged, electric composition

Righteous indignation, tempered with musicianship and a message, describes John Reed and the Folded Arms’ June 29, 2018 release, The Breeding Ground Of Vile. The 24-song double album is available as both a high- quality download and streaming on Bandcamp. A release of The Breeding Ground Of Vile on CD and vinyl will follow later this year. The Breeding Ground Of Vile was produced by the multi-faceted HeyGamal who also appears on the album. Check out the varied assortment of instruments and voices, below.

Reed cites contented scoundrel politicians, the innocent victims of war and more, through his music. In a recent interview, Reed stated, “The album loosely compares stuff that happened centuries ago with stuff that is happening now in order to illustrate the fact that humankind never seems to learn from its mistakes. This idea also will be reflected in the album art, when the physical CDs are released in about October. So, having a more acoustic volume that focuses largely on traditional instruments, represents the centuries ago…and the punchier, rocky volume introduces a more electric feel.”

The lineup on The Breeding Ground Of Vile includes John Reed – lead vocals, cittern, electric and acoustic six-string guitars, 12-string guitar and cello; Kieran Heaney – electric guitar, slide bass guitar; Emma Perry and Kate Ferris – vocals, percussion; Duncan Reed – dual vocals on “Outnumbered”;’ Matt Steady – violin, Uilleann pipes, fretless bass guitar; Peter Robinson – percussion; The Lewinskies (Kristen Lewis – vocals, accordion, Matthew Lewis – acoustic guitar); and HeyGamal – bass guitar, keyboards.
