Hot Breath’s self-titled first EP, available Oct. 18, 2019, gets right to the basics of hard rock with six tracks sure to have heads banging. Led by singer and guitarist Jennifer Israelsson, formerly of Honeymoon Disease and featuring bandmates from Hypnos and Grand, the Swedish music quartet serves up an undeniable groove. Released as a CD, 180g vinyl and digital formats, there is more to the Gothenburg-based band’s debut.

Surely homage to the denim and leather metal scene of the 1970s, riffs from the album’s opening track, “Still Not Dead,” signal relentless rock and roll, empowering listeners to boogie any blues away. Israelsson’s voice fits wellHot Breath-jpg.com within the music, ranging from harmonious to a rebel yell without cracking. On the choruses of “Maniac” and “Got it All” the vocalist carries the songs without overpowering the tracks.

A highlight from the collection, during “1000 Miles,” Israelsson reflects on a relationship, perhaps several, that ended for various reasons. In one scenario, a choice is to be made, between a lover and a career, as Israelsson sings, “Are you sorry that you met me/Are you sad that I had to choose?” The don’t go away mad, just go away sentiment has been heard many times, but the uniqueness of this particular scene is amplified from a woman rocker’s perspective. Israelsson makes it clear there will be no holding back by indecisiveness or pettiness.

Hot Breath succeeds in producing vintage heavy sounding rock which could fill a concert hall. Fans of Iggy Pop, The Donnas and Point of Entry era Judas Priest aficionados will enjoy the contact high from Hot Breath.
