FFO: Hard Rock, Progressive Rock, Classical Influences, Electronic

A collection of 13 original songs, including five instrumental tracks, if the YouTube promo for The Confidence Trick album is any indication, Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate has created a compelling one-two punch with sound and AI assisted imagery. Naturally, musicinterviewmagazine.com jumped at the chance for a sneak preview of The Confidence Trick.

Prime musicianship and style of messaging describes The Confidence Trick, from Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate.

Surreal, historic and even didactic, The Confidence Trick, Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate’s sixth album, examines the idea of how overconfidence can sometimes come with pitfalls that are often ignored at a cost. With an anticipated July 2022 release date, the collection leads off with the 4:24 “Silence Is A Statement,” a contemporized semiotic observation. Rich in keyboards, a terrific rhythm, vocals and guitar work, HOGIA’s unique character easily emerges through the music. Moving through the song list, the 6:03 “Perky Pat” is synthy smooth before yielding to a progressive focus. At 10:23, “Refuge” is sweeping inside several time signatures while “All Empires Fall” sticks close to the falsehood of confidence concept.

The lineup on The Confidence Trick is Malcolm Galloway – vocals, lead guitar, keyboards/synths, programming; Mark Gatland – bass guitar, additional and slide guitars, keyboards/synths, Chapman Stick, backing vocals; and Kathryn Thomas – flute, backing vocals.

The power of Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate is twofold. In addition to the music, watching the video promotion for The Confidence Trick reveals cover standing out with surrealistic angularity while conveying a human message. During the video, the album art is immediately followed by fine art, photography and other images, all helping to express the point of The Confidence Trick, by Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate.
